The Super Blow Out

Whelp there it is, a very fitting end, to a very offbeat season. The Chiefs lost to the Eagles 40-22, in reality they actually lost 40-6 because the last touchdowns came in garbage time against the Eagles second strings, but still a dominating win for the Eagles. The weird thing is, in a game with no really controversial calls, the team that has been winning by one score all year with a offense that was ranked 15th, never scoring over 30 points, got blown out by 18 (34 if we discount the 2 tds), almost like those controversial calls were giving a team an unfair advantage all season. Kansas City was simply exposed for the terrible team they were last night, and if it wasn’t for soft defenses and poor officiating, the Chiefs would have never gone to that game, let alone play in it.

Mahomes played the worst game of his life in the Super Bowl and arguably one of the worst performances of all time in a Superbowl. This was a direct result from the Eagles being able to pressure Mahomes without being held or without Taylor false starting every passing play. Mahomes threw 2 picks, one for a touchdown to Cooper Dejean, however those picks only happened by the complete dominance the Eagles D-line had over the o-line, they hit that man so much, it was like watching a chicken run with his head cut off near the end of the 3rd quarter. Mahomes got frantic, antsy, and instead of using his eyes or pre snap adjustments to counter the blitz, he relied on his physical ability which made him scramble at times when he didn't need to, leading to 6 sacks. Not to blame all of those sacks on Mahomes, but a vast majority came from him not understanding the pocket.

The other big reason he got sacked a ton; Travis Kelce. I don’t think I've seen a worse performance from someone who is supposed to be an all time great at tight end than I did with Kelce. Travis Kelce's praise needs to be stopped this instance, that man got so exposed on the line trying to block yesterday, that he literally just gave up. I've never seen a tight end refuse to block in a game, especially a SUPER BOWL. It was like a baby, who didn’t get what he wanted, so he decided to ruin everyone else's fun. Kelce benefits from being a tight end who lines up in the slot and gets mismatches, but when it comes time to block, you better sure hope to god Taylor is allowed to false start because Kelce isn't helping chip or block at all. It is 50% of the tight ends job to block, you should not be considered or compared to other tight ends when you fundamentally play the position poorly. He should be getting compared to wide receivers, specifically slot receivers since that's where he lines up the most, the crazy part is, he has the stats to still be considered a great slot receiver, but is Travis Kelce a great tight end? No, is he even a tight end? The answer is no, he lines up as one but is used as a receiver, and is in shambles when it comes to blocking.

Therefore, even though the Chiefs played god awful, which is funny because it wasn’t very different from how they were playing all year, they did not lose this game, the BIG BAD EAGLES won this game in heroic fashion. Not only does Jalen Hurts shut down the narrative that he’s not a great QB, which he is top 5, but also was such a big win for the team overall. All I heard even from myself this year was that the Eagles' whole offense was Saquon, which I still believe was the key part to getting to the Superbowl, but Siranni and Hurts showed they were also the reason they were dominant this year. However, the reason why this Eagles team won in such a dominant fashion was because of that defense. It was like watching the most perfect well oiled machine work. That defense was a straight machine that never made a mistake, and made Mahomes, Kelce, and Reid look like Oswieler, Dwayne Allen, and Urban Meyer. Jalen Carter was looking like prime Aaron Donald against that D-line, and Cooper Dejean almost won a Superbowl MVP with how locked in he was playing. The Eagles defense was just way to strong for a weak offense that relied on penalties throughout the season.

At the end of the day, the Kansas City Chiefs finally got exposed for having the 15th best offense in the league, by rightfully the BIG BAD Eagles. Mahomes got out played, Kelce didn’t even show up to play, Reid was craving a burger instead of changing up his game plan, and Jalen Carter made the whole offensive line look like highschoolers. To conclude, Jalen Hurts deserves credit and is one of the best in the league, The Eagles won that game in dominant, heroic fashion without Barkley, and the Kansas City Chiefs were only playing in the Super Bowl because they got lucky.
